Fellow relegated side Rochdale visit Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium tonight.
John Sheridan is hoping to see his strikers find their form after failing to find the net in a totally dominant opening 30 minutes on Saturday. Spireites were sucker-punched when Wimbledon’s Jack Midson bagged a route one goal and following that, the visiting strikers continued to fail near goal.
Rochdale’s front men also were unable to breach their opponents’ defence at the weekend.
Northampton Town visited Spotland and they dominated early on but Dale gradually got into the game and created chances of their own but the contest ended goalless.
Like Chesterfield, Dale lost in extra time in the Capital One Cup, Barnsley beat them 4-3, so both sides will be desperate for a win. With Ashley Grimes and George Donnelly leading the visitors’ attack, Dale will be dangerous.
Who will be up against them will be one of Sheridan’s selection posers. Neal Trotman and Sam Hird were his central defenders at Kingsmeadow but Trotman, who was outpaced for the goal, was replaced later on and Terrell Forbes moved into the central defence. Trotman looks the ideal man to negate Odejayi and, as he appeared for Dale in the first part of last season, he’ll know several of their players well.
Sam Hird showed what he could do last time out. He put together a fine 90 minutes and even came within a whisker of scoring for the first time in over three years.
