After several days of negotiations, the Spireites have got their man.
Former Barnsley striker Marc Richards, aged 29, the top scorer for Port Vale for the last four seasons, has agreed a two year deal. Chesterfield owner Dave Allen stated that their three main transfer targets were a centre half to play alongside Neal Trotman, a midfielder and a 20 goal striker. Richards fits the bill in the last category having reached 20 goals in two of the last three seasons at Vale Park.
Saturday sees 30 junior teams from North Derbyshire and South Yorkshire play a six-a-side tournament. Spectators are welcome, entry is free, to join family and friends for the Spireites Community Cup 2012, which is being held between 9.30am and 5pm.
