The completion of Spireites’ 22 man League Two squad remains the priority job at the B2net.
At present there are at least four spots to be filled.
Eight players remained on contract, five others have been offered extensions and three youth teamers have been promoted to the first team squad. The recruitment of Richard O’Donnell and Marc Richards takes the number to 18, assuming Danny Whitaker re-signs and the feeling is that he will.
That leaves the four slots with defence and midfield being the weakest areas for both starters and cover.
A quality centre half and a dominant midfielder are the two priority positions with full-back cover and a second centre-back just behind in most fans’ priority lists.
The recent weekend saw the stadium’s final match of the season. A team of Soapstars hammered a Chesterfield Legends side 6-1. The Spireites side included Paul Holland, Ernie Moss - now aged 62 - Bob Newton, Jamie Hewitt, Chris Beaumont, Andy Kowalski and Dave Caldwell, who scored his side’s goal.
Chief Executive Chris Turner also appeared in an unfamiliar outfield role.
A handful of tickets remain for the Elton John concert at the B2net on Saturday June 9.
