One of Paul Cook’s potential targets this summer, Port Vale striker Jordan Hugill, has signed a two-year deal at Preston North End.
Hugill’s recruitment could increase the chances of ex-Spireite Craig Davies making a return to North Derbyshire. Davies was on loan at Preston from Bolton Wanderers last season.
Chesterfield’s leading scorer in the 2010-11 Championship season is known to be on Cook’s radar, with a season-long loan from Bolton the most likely method of acquisition.
It’s believed that the Deepdale club contributed in the region of £2,500 a week to Davies’s wages which are thought to be substantially higher than that.
