CHESTERFIELD crashed to a 3-0 defeat at home to Championship new boys Huddersfield Town in their penultimate friendly last night, writes Dom Howson.
It was pretty even for much of the first half but the Terriers demonstrated their superior class in the final third, hitting two goals in the opening 23 minutes courtesy of Alan Lee and Jimmy Spencer.
Out of nothing, the visitors broke the deadlock with eight minutes on the clock as former Rotherham United forward Lee fired in a shot which went in off the post.
Spencer doubled the lead, glancing in Scott Arfield’s cross.
Chesterfield, who named an unchanged side from the team who lost 2-1 at Alfreton Town last week, refused to buckle and Danny Whitaker tested the reflexes of Ian Bennett just after the half hour mark.
Four minutes after half-time, Drew Talbot’s fierce shot struck the crossbar and rebounded to safety as the Spireites upped the pressure.
Whitaker and Craig Westcarr came close to pulling one back before Huddersfield substitute Jordan Sinnott added a third late on.
