Spireites boss Paul Cook reaffirmed the style of play he wants to encourage following his side’s excellent 3-0 win over Northampton Town.
Cook said; “I want to play a system that is a very attacking one. People get bogged down with this one up front but we ended up with Randall, Whitaker, Darikwa, O’Shea and Richards on the pitch and if someone tells me that is defensive then I must be in the wrong game.
“But what we want is to have the right balance, the right ingredients that we can open teams up with penetration. We’re not there yet and we’re not trying to be clever and make excuses. We have good players at this club; all we want to do is get better.”
With over two weeks of the transfer window remaining, Cook concluded: “We certainly need a depth to the squad so that everyone at the club should be ready and waiting to play so we can change it. That’s all we want, but when you win there always seems to be less problems than when you lose, that’s for sure.”
Chesterfield travel to Torquay United at the weekend, with transfer-listed Neal Trotman set to retain his place after a superb return in his first match since October.
Suspended utility man Conor Townsend will be available again for what’s scheduled to be his last game on loan from Hull City, but he’s expected to extend his loan spell after the trip to Devon.
