FORMER Barnsley midfielder Sam Togwell has signed for Chesterfield, as expected.
The 27-year-old had been released by Scunthorpe United at the end of the season after four years at Glandford Park.
A defensive engine-roomer, Togwell is the type of player many supporters have wanted to see in the Spireites’ central area after conceding far too many goals last season.
Togwell says that he is delighted to be joining a forward-thinking club: “There’s a lot of ambition with the club and it certainly matches my ambition,” he said.
The former Crystal Palace player becomes the fifth new face to sign on for John Sheridan’s side and is the 21st player in the squad.
The manager was given a pre-season target to assemble a squad of 22, so Spireites followers are now anxioulsy waiting to see who may be the final piece of the jigsaw.
