CHESTERFIELD have drafted in 19-year-old winger or striker Micah Evans from Blackburn Rovers.

The teenager, who made 24 appearances for Accrington Stanley on loan last season, scoring three goals, has signed on until January.

His signing looks to have scuppered any chance of recruiting ex-Owl Etienne Esajas. The Dutchman, who played in the reserves in midweek, is believed to be seeking a wage level and contract length that Chesterfield feel is unrealistic given his lack of football in recent times.

Evans will go straight into the squad for tomorrow’s home match against Torquay United and he’s likely to get a start. Caretaker boss Tommy Wright has made it clear he only wants to bring in new faces that are going to make an impact in the first 11.

Striker Scott Boden (groin) is out but Danny Whitaker is ready to start after being a sub in the goalless draw at Northampton Town last weekend.

Evans could replace occasional starter Tendayi Darikwa in the starting line-up, meaning Drew Talbot will probably switch back from left wing to right with the new man playing ahead of left-back Liam Ridehalgh.

Chesterfield’s back four is likely to remain unchanged for a seventh straight match with Richard O’Donnell continuing in goal as Tommy Lee’s recovers from a shoulder injury. None of those games have been lost and the Spireites are unbeaten in eight.

Torquay boss Martin Ling will be without midfielders Damon Lathrope (knee) and Saul Halpin (ankle) for the trip, though only the former would be a likely starter if fit.

Leading scorer Rene Howe, who’s got five goals, along with ex-Spireite Ian Morris have both limited their training over the last couple of weeks due to minor injuries, but are expected to be fit.
