Tonight, Spireites will be hoping to achieve something they’ve failed to do every time since 1980.

Back then, Spireites beat Sheffield United in an FA Cup second round replay, a win that saw them take on Peterborough in the third Round. Chesterfield drew that match at London Road but lost the replay and they’ve continued to lose replays after draws ever since!

Thirteen drawn FA Cup games since the Blades win have been followed by 13 consecutive replay losses, the MK Dons’ restaged match this season after Georg Margreitter’s ineligibility issue technically not being a ‘replay’.

Paul Cook’s men stormed back from a two goal deficit at Glandford Park last week and since then both sides have enjoyed wins. Spireites disposed of Port Vale 3-0, they’ve now suffered just one defeat in 13 whilst the Iron won 4-1 at Walsall taking their unbeaten run to 11.

Chesterfield could be unchanged again but Jimmy Ryan and Jay O’Shea could be considered for a recall.

United will be forced to make at least two changes; debutants Jamie Murphy and Tom Hopper will be ineligible as will their other signing since the original match, Jordan Clarke. Murphy recently caused a storm via social media when, whilst on loan at Blackpool, he tweeted a message indicating he expected the Seasiders to lose again.
