Drew Talbot goes straight in to the starting line-up against AFC Wimbledon after recovering from a broken toe.
The former Sheffield Wednesday player will play at right back rather than playing further up the field to replace Tendayi Darikwa, who faces a month on the sidelines with a hernia problem he sustained in the draw at Rochdale.
Spireites physio Jamie Hewitt said: “It’s a common injury in football so it doesn’t cause undue concern.”
It means skipper Sam Hird could move into a holding midfield role to replace Craig Clay or be left out altogether as it’s unlikely that the central backs Liam Cooper and transfer listed Neal Trotman will be affected.
Darikwa’s place will probably go to Mark Randall who replaced him at Spotland, though Conor Townsend will also be hoping for a start.
Marc Richards, Jay O’Shea and Danny Whitaker will all retain their starting spots as Chesterfield look to make home advantage count against the league’s bottom side.
