Spireites host fellow promoted side Rochdale tomorrow.
Keith Hill’s side has lost its first two matches this season, one in the league, one in the cup, and are yet to score
The ex Barnsley manager, who lost last season’s top scorer Scott Hogan to Brentford in the summer, has signed former Oakwell midfielder Stephen Dawson to add to his squad and he could be drafted straight into the starting eleven.
Dale have also taken on another former Red, Tom Kennedy for his third spell at the club. The full back will bolster Hill’s slender squad which looks set to be without skipper Ollie Lancashire who limped out of Tuesday’s home defeat against Preston.
Chesterfield supporters will be hoping to see a couple of new faces ahead of the encounter. With Liam Cooper’s move to Leeds, Paul Cook will have the opportunity to at the very least replace and probably add to his roster.
With Ritchie Humphreys (knee) set to be out for at least a month, joining Drew Talbot on the sidelines, there’s a significant shortage of bodies in Spireites squad. Dan Gardner is unlikely to be considered for the game, though he’s expected back next week.
Ian Evatt played in the 5-3 loss against Huddersfield on Tuesday despite suffering from tonsillitis. He is expected to continue in the side whilst Ian Banks, who scored with his first kick since March after replacing Humphreys, looks set to start.
Tommy Lee will be looking to atone from the rare error he made in stoppage time at the end of normal time against the Terriers whilst at the opposite end of the park, Eoin Doyle will be looking to continue his run of scoring after netting against both Orient and Huddersfield.
