Spireites coach Mark Crossley has confirmed he’s staying at the B2net Stadium.

He’d been targeted by Birmingham City manager Lee Clark, an ex-Fulham colleague, to move to St Andrews but man known as Big Norm has, via Twitter, said he’s staying put.

Via @BigNorms he tweeted: Birmingham move isn’t happening, more than happy to be carrying on with Spireites, League 1 see you soon. That was followed by: We are just on loan in league 2 for one season.

With pre-season training starting this week, Chesterfield’s squad is thought to be all but complete. John Sheridan has 21 men on his roster, 5 of them new signings and 3 are first year professionals, Jacob Hazel, Jonathan Wafula and Jack Waddle.

With up to 7 subs allowed this season, there are area of the squad that look somewhat undercooked but the manager does have flexibility with a number of players being able to switch positions.

New faces Terrell Forbes and Sam Hird can play anywhere across the back four and another summer signing, Sam Togwell, predominantly a play-breaker in midfield, has also appeared in defence during his career.

Chesterfield’s first pre-season game is at Matlock Town on Tuesday 24th July.
