TENDAYI Darikwa’s first goal wasn’t enough to give Spireites victory over Torquay.
Spireites, unbeaten in eight, the last seven of them being under caretaker manager Tommy Wright, went into the game seeking a third straight home win after 3-1 and 4-3 wins over Wycombe and Accrington.
Eleven minutes were on the clock when Talbot’s 18 yard shot on the turn forced Poke to tip over. Hird headed over from the second phase of the resulting corner. The same player shot wide after Togwell and Lester had combined well on the right of the box, but fluent moves weren’t forthcoming from the hosts.
Half-time: Chesterfield 0 Torquay 0
Chesterfield came out of the traps quickly, Hird forced a save after a Darikwa pass following a Togwell long throw but, not for the first time, the corner was poor. However Torquay were unable to get the ball out of their patch and Westcarr received Lester’s partially blocked quick free-kick, he slipped it through for DARIKWA and the 20 year old converted his first ever senior goal beyond Poke in the 48th minute.
Just three minutes later, parity was restored. A long ball forwards saw Trotman slip and in nipped regular scorer against Chesterfield HOWE to drill a low ball home.
Lester was clearly hauled back inside the box but the officials were unmoved.
Seconds later, at the other end, the ball struck Trotman’s arm but the ref waved play-on.
Spireites’ inability to break through a resilient defence marshalled well by Downes saw the frustration mount.
