THE Spireites romped to a comfortable win in their opening pre-season victory at Alfreton Town last night.
With new signing Nathan Smith at left-back, the only man who featured in both halves, Chesterfield included three trialists in the starting line-up.
And it was trialist Danny Pilkington, formerly of Stockport County, who broke the deadlock on the half hour mark.
Jordan Bowery doubled the lead after an hour, rounding off a decent move that involved Mark Randall and Jack Lester.
The non-league hosts pulled one back with a Matt Wilson header eight minutes from time but Bowery added his second and Lester headed home a Randall cross to make it four late on.
Chesterfield’s next pre-season friendly is at Matlock Town on Tuesday.
