Boos were unjust says Wilson, who hopes for encouragement from fans

The Chesterfield boss says it’s not for him to explain why supporters booed the Spireites’ performance in the 1-0 defeat by Fleetwood.

But he says it’s down to the management and players at the Proact to ensure there’s no cause for booing.

“I don’t think it’s water off a duck’s back, I don’t think anyone wants to hear it,” he said.

“But it’s the fans’ perogative, if they want to boo they can boo.

“All we can do is put performances in that make sure they don’t deserve that.”

The reaction his players received from a section of the support on Tuesday was undeserved, in Wilson’s eyes.

“I thought it was unjust, they were doing very well at times,” he said.

“We could have been two up or three up after 10 minutes and it’s only that little bit of luck we were lacking.

“I didn’t think at half-time we deserved to be booed off but at full-time certainly not.

“People will make their own decisions, who am I to complain about it?

“You’d have to ask the people who are booing what they want, I can’t speak for them, they can tell you why they’re frustrated, I don’t know.”

With just one win in 10 League One outings, contending with a lingering injury crisis and facing league leading Scunthorpe on Saturday, Wilson says positive reinforcement is what his squad needs.

“At this stage of the season with the group of boys we’ve got, they need as much encouragement as they can get.

“They get it from me, that’s important. The bonus is if they can get it from the fans.”

Wilson may be without the services of either right-back Paul McGinn or striker Ched Evans tomorrow, revealing that one of the pair has suffered an injury setback, but refusing to identify the player.
