And director Ashley Carson has announced that the annual Player of the Year event, scheduled for 30th April, has been cancelled due to a lack of interest.

Only 60 tickets had been purchased for the awards do, but Carson has revealed that a replacement event will be held on the same night, attended by the players.

The week didn’t get off to a great start for the club with supporters angered by Caldwell’s apparent last-minute pull out.

Academy coach Dylan Kerr stood in for the first team manager.

Company secretary Carson posted an apology on Facebook later in the day saying: “So sorry about the Senior Spireites lunch today.

“Gary was unable to re-arrange an appointment with a consultant regarding his hip. He was still trying late last night.

“By way of an apology we will arrange another date and all who attended will be able to attend at no charge.”

Carson also told fans that the club will hold a question and answer session with Caldwell after Easter.

“Following all recent doubts and questions regarding the manager I am going to hold a Q&A evening with myself and Gary,” he said.

“I hope I will also be able to unveil the new director of recruitment.

“He will play a major part in the recruitment of new players for next season.

“This will be ticket only and (for a) number yet to be decided, but will be less than 100, strictly first come first served to season ticket holders only.”

Confirming the cancellation of the Player of the Year awards, he added: “I am not going to run an event that loses money.

“To date we have only sold about 60 tickets.

“Instead we will run an event on the same night, again season ticket holders only and also include those who have already purchased tickets.

“They will get a full refund.

“The event will cost a token gesture, that will be donated to Ashgate Hospice.

“The event will be open to approximately 150.

“The players will all attend and awards given out.”
