DONCASTER Rovers Belles will have a number of new faces in their squad when they take on Barnet in the fifth round of the WFA Cup this weekend in their first competitive game of 2012.

The Women’s Super League team, who have not won the WFA Cup since the early 1990s, could include latest signing Aylissa Lugonia in their 16-strong squad.

The 22-year-old Canadian international, who was recommended to the club by a contact in the North-east, trained with Belles for the first time at the weekend and did enough to win herself a deal for the 2012 season.

“I knew by her pedigree that she’d be a half-decent player,” said Belles’ boss John Buckley.

“She’d sent a DVD of herself but I wouldn’t sign anyone of the strength of that because no-one is going to send you footage of them playing badly.

“You want to see someone play and to be fair she looked good in training. She’s a two-footed attacking midfielder and she did well enough to persuade me to take a punt on her. I think she’ll do well for us.”

Belles’ first home game of the season is a WSL League Cup game against Bristol Ladies at the Keepmoat Stadium on March 24 or 25.
