SUNDAY: Which player from YOUR club’s history would you love to see back?
Football: News, reports and more.
MANCHESTER United dropped a bombshell today when they brought Paul Scholes back out of retirement.
The ‘ginger ninja’ midfielder came on as a second half sub as the reds beat Manchester City in the FA Cup third round.
It set us wondering.
If you could chose just one player to come back to YOUR club who would it be?
As this is just a bit of fun, it doesn’t have to be a player who has recently left or retired.
They don’t even have to be alive!
Maybe it’s a Chris Waddle or a Tony Currie, at Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United respectively?
Or maybe there is a player in the current squad you wouldn’t swap with anyone from your club’s history.
Let us know - and that includes you Doncaster Rovers, Barnsley, Rotherham United and Chesterfield fans, too.
Email us one name - and a paragraph of comment on why you picked him.
We’ll publish the best replies in The Star.
Email us at starsport@jpress.co.uk
PS: I bet Manchester United would have preferred to bring on a born-again George Best, Bobby Charlton or Denis Law!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 04:31 PMBlanchflower, Edwards, Ronnie Glavin, All great players well worth havin’ But if tha wants a team wi’ mettle It’s on Neil Redfearn tha mun settle; There’s them that’s fancy wi their feet And them as tries to score all neet, But if tha wants some drive and passion Then Redfearn’s allus t'lad in fashion.

Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 06:49 PMWould love to see Derek "Doc"Pace Uniteds most prolific post war goalscorer who played at a time when football was still football i.e, proper tackles, proper offside law,no subs ,passback to keeper still in place , HOW WOULD todays players cope? God bless you DEREK PACE!

Monday, January 9, 2012 at 02:11 PMAlan 'Sherman' Birchenall. The blond bombshell's Best-like style and never ending stream of goals against Wednesday convinced me to be a Blade when all the rest of the family were Owls. The Wednesday player I'd most like to see return would be the incomparable one and only Colin West. Entertained me (unintentionally) every time I saw him. What a player that lad was...

Monday, January 9, 2012 at 09:32 AMSo many to choose from:Swan,Kay,Fantham,Sheridan,Hirst Waddle,Springett, but goalscorers are worth their weight in gold so I'd go for John Fantham for his speed, power of shot in both feet, ability to beat a man and no mean passer of a ball either.

Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 09:56 PMIf only Francis had the bottle to sign Cantona. I remember seeing him at the Arena against Baltimore Blast but because the outside pitches were frozen solid Francis declined him a contract after a weeks trail...... PILLOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Agree with Waddle and Hirst. That's a toughy Norton would old time players fit in in today's game?

Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 08:18 PMHirst and Madine up front.....that would have been something, especially when Hirst's career would not necessarily be ruined by the likes of Bould, keown & Adams scything through his ankles from behind on a regular basis.

Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 07:42 PMNo Contest - Derek Dooley. He would truly make Jordan Rhodes look very ordinary! (Or Eric Bell - but he only played in a blue and white shirt!)
