Reds close in on Golbourne
Tykes: Barnsley latest news.
THE Star understands Barnsley are set to sign Exeter City defender Scott Golbourne for an undisclosed fee today.
The 23-year-old left-back was due at Oakwell this afternoon for a medical and to sign contract papers for a two-and a-half-year deal.
Golbourne started his career with Bristol City, had a brief spell with Reading and has since plied his trade on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, Bournemouth and Oldham Athletic.
In 2009 the former England Under 17, 18 and 19 international joined Exeter and in 2010 signed a new two-year contract.
“He comes well-regarded,” revealed a Barnsley source.
Meanwhile, the Reds have received and turned down an offer from West Ham for striker Ricardo Vaz Te.
Vaz Te has bagged 12 goals this, with ten of them in the Championship.
“The offer is derisory and we’ve turned it down,” confirmed Reds director Don Rowing. “We’re still in talks with West Ham, so we’ll have to see if anything happens there.”
The Star also understands that trialist Yannick Boli has now left the club and won’t be offered a contract before the transfer window shuts tomorrow night.
French forward Boli trained with the Reds for a couple of days last week and was hoping for a chance in the Championship now that he is a free agent.
