Reds chief set to wait for loan window

BARNSLEY manager Mark Robins is staying positive despite not adding to his squad before the transfer deadline closed last night.

Robins refused to be rushed into buying any new players, especially with the transfer loan window set to re-open next Tuesday.

"I think there is a bit of a panic about this deadline date and the window closing, but I won't be rushed into doing any business unless it's right for the club," Robins told The Star. "Everybody gets a little bit excited because there is a transfer stop clock on SkySports.

Obviously, people are interested in who you are going to sign.

Unfortunately, the players I wanted to bring in are not available at the moment. I've spoken to a number of different people about the players that I'm looking at, but at the moment there's nothing doing.

"That's not to say that won't change - and the loan window re-opens next week."

Robins is keen to sign one or two strikers as well as a defender as extra cover.

And the manager revealed he will keep working around the clock in an attempt to bolster his squad as the Oakwell outfit look to build on an impressive start to the season with seven points in their last three league games.

Robins also said that if striker Iain Hume were to leave it would now have to be on a loan deal with no chance of a permanent deal until January 1 when the transfer window re-opens. Hume is currently in Canada on international duty.

Another Reds player, defender Jay McEveley, has toasted his first international call-up for over two years.

McEveley has been called into the Scotland squad for two European qualifying matches: "I'm delighted for Jay, it's testament to how good a player he is," said Robins.
