Potter happy with new Reds' deal

BARNSLEY defender Luke Potter is determined to have a successful at Oakwell despite limited first team opportunities.

Potter signed a new two-year deal recently and although he has only played once under Mark Robins this season, the 20-year-old has been reassured by the manager that his time will come.

"The lads have played well this season, so you can't complain when you don't get in the side because of that," Potter told The Star.

"That's football. All you can do is work hard in training and take your chance when it comes.

"I'm sure I'll get another chance this season. It's great to have been offered a new deal, it's what you want to hear.

"Me and the club have been chatting since Christmas, so it was really good to finally get something done. It allows me to just concentrate on my football and get in the team."

Potter was given his chance last month and impressed when he played the full 90 minutes in the club's 2-0 win at Cardiff City. But with Stoke City loan defender Ryan Shotton available after four-game suspension, Potter was dropped to the bench.

"I thought I played pretty well in the Cardiff game," added Potter. "To be honest I was a bit worried about my fitness because that was my first game for about three months.

"But I felt fine and it was got to be involved because we played really well.I'd have obviously liked to have played (in the next game] against Blackpool, but Shotts was back and he's done well all season. You just have to accept those decisions sometimes.

"There's still quite a few games left and if I get my chance then I'll be looking to play well." Potter revealed Robins has been a big help in boosting his confidence having struggled to command a regular starting berth over the last couple of seasons.

"Mark's been great with me, one thing he's really helped me with is confidence," said Potter. "He'll let you know when you're doing something wrong, but he's always happy to have a chat and tell you what you're doing right.

"There's competition for places and he's told me my chance will come."
