Perkins out as duo step up for debuts

BARNSLEY will be without midfield dynamo David Perkins for tonight’s re-arranged home clash with Birmingham City.

The hard-working Perkins limped off with an ankle injury in Saturday’s welcome 2-0 home win against Portsmouth.

But the good news for Reds boss Keith Hill is that midfielder Stephen Dawson has recovered from an ankle injury and is in contention to make his debut against the Championship high fliers after joining from Leyton Orient.

And new signing David Cotterill is almost certain to start.

“Perks is going to be out for at least three weeks; it’s a big blow for us,” revealed Hill. “But we have to carry these blows and make sure we utilise the players and resources which we’ve got to the best of our ability.

“There’s more than a probablility that David Cotterill will start the game.

“Chris Dagnall will probably start the game as well. I’ve got to make sure I’ve got a freshness on the pitch because I’m asking a lot of the players.

“We are a very small squad, so it’s needs must. If I have to play some of the youth-team players I will. I’m sure they’d give me and the supporters everything they’ve got.

“We’ve won 12 games now with 15 games to go, which is encouraging.”
