Oakwell exit for young duo
BARNSLEY are releasing Rhys Meynell and Kyle Letheren.
Meynell, an Oakwell academy graduate, has been on loan at crisis club Gretna from February, making 12 starts so far in the Scottish Premier League.
The 19-year-old defender failed to make a single appearance for Barnsley.
Goalkeeper Letheren, also 19, played half a game for Oakwell manager Simon Davey. He came on as a sub in the FA Cup third round tie with Blackpool after Heinz Muller was injured.
The former Welsh under-21 keeper was signed a year ago on a free transfer from Swansea. He slipped down the Barnsley pecking order with the arrival of Luke Steele.
The rest of Davey's squad remain under contract.
Barnsley's Paul Reid will not feature for Carlisle in their League One play-off campaign which begins on Monday at Leeds United. He was on loan at his home-town club but played only once after suffering an ankle injury.
Barnsley were willing to let the 26-year-old stay in Cumbria but Carlisle decided against keeping him.
Former Barnsley midfielder Chris Lumsdon insists current club Carlisle will relish their tag as underdogs when they meet Leeds in the League One play-off semi finals.
Lumsdon skippered the Cumbrians for the first time in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Bournemouth which ended their slim hopes of automatic promotion, and is confident they can still reach the Coca-Cola Championship despite a disappointing end to the regular season.
"When people write us off that's when were at our strongest - so let them write us off," he said. "Leeds are a good team with good players but we matched them twice this season, so bring it on."
