Loan deal the likely exit for strike ace

BARNSLEY director Don Rowing has revealed that transfer deadline day came and went with no enquiries about any of the club's players.

Preston North End and Brighton both expressed an interest in striker Iain Hume last month, but no move was made before the transfer window closed at 6pm on Tuesday.

Rowing admitted that if Canadian international Hume were to leave the club it would probably now be on loan, with the transfer window not re-opening until 1st January 2011.

"There was an inquiry from Preston about Iain, but nothing new on transfer deadline day," Rowing told The Star.

"Iain's away with Canada on international duty at the moment, which meant there was never any chance of any meaningful negotiations happening anyway.

"Whether Preston will come back when the loan window opens, who knows?

But it does look if Iain leaves it will be on a loan deal.

"Brighton made an inquiry about Iain as well, but they haven't taken that inquiry any further."

Rowing added: "We didn't have any queries about any of our other players either. We've got a squad of players at the club and I know Mark Robins is looking to add to that squad when he can.

"We'll take each request for a new players on merit; we fully support what Mark is trying to achieve at the club.

"But there are of course financial implications and we've done everything we can do support him up to now."

There were widely-reported rumours that Tykes winger Adam Hammill has attracted the attention of Premiership duo Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers.

The former Liverpool winger enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Seasiders, while the Trotters were also believed to be interested in securing the 22-year-old's services.

"Neither club has been in touch with us regarding Adam," confirmed Rowing.
