Keeper Luke tips Barnsley to Steele the show

BARNSLEY keeper Luke Steele believes the club could achieve something "special" this season if they continue to show plenty of character.

The Tykes clinched an impressive 2-0 victory at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday thanks to goals from Jason Shackell and Adam Hammill.

And Steele starred between the posts with a string of top saves to frustrate the Tynesiders at Oakwell for the second successive season.

"Everyone is so happy, you go in the changing room and everyone is buzzing," said Steele.

"You wouldn't believe the contrast in how we felt last week when we should have won at Bristol, then we've got a great result against Middlesbrough.

"Hopefully we can keep getting some more confidence and the results will keep snowballing into something really special.

"We've got to look at getting to the Play-offs. This league is tough, but with our character there's no limits for us."

Steele has made a few costly mistakes this season, but the former Manchester United shot-stopper was on the top of his game at the weekend.

"I know when I've made mistakes," added Steele. "I've let in a couple of goals and should have done better, so it's been a big test of character for me. When the mistakes go in you analyse them, you look at them on the internet and you really sometimes have to grit your teeth.

"Last year I made three mistakes all season and they were spaced out, but this season I've made three in the first five games.

"The lads have been brilliant, though. We've taken positives from every game. Against Middlesbrough we looked a really, really good Championship side, especially in the second half we were a real threat going forward."
