Hill’s reality check as Reds push for play-offs

BARNSLEY boss Keith Hill wants his ambitious side to reach for the stars, but has stressed the need for “realism” at Oakwell.

The Reds sprung another major surprise last Saturday by beating big spenders Leicester City, another notable Championship scalp in a season which sees Hill’s side just four points from breaking into the play-off positions.

Next up is a home clash with strugglers Millwall today and Hill said: “We’ve very ambitious but we’ve got to balance that with realism.

“We over-achieved last week and the players were magnificent, every single one of them.

“But there’s still a large part of the season remaining and all the players have got to be motivated and workmanlike. We’ve got to be workaholics in the pursuit of three points on any given match day.”

Hill will be without winger Jim O’Brien for today’s clash with the Lions, absent with a groin injury, while skipper Jacob Butterfield is out for the season with his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

And there will be no Danny Drinkwater, the Manchester United loan midfielder, after he ended his loan spell at the club to sign a three-and-a-half year deal with Leicester on Thursday.

Hill added: “I’m really pleased with what we’ve achieved and it’s a great aim for us to be trying to get into the play-offs.

“But we’re fighting against some real stern opposition to get there.”
