Hassell wants to build on positive start
BARNSLEY defender Bobby Hassell is delighted the club have made a much improved start to the season compared to last term.
The Reds did lose their opening npower Championship match of the season away at Queen's Park Rangers before a shock 1-0 Carling Cup loss to League One Rochdale.
But the Oakwell outfit have picked up seven points from a possible ten in their last three outings, including wins Crystal Palace and promotion favourites Middlesbrough.
"After the 4-0 defeat to QPR it looked like we'd do our usual poor start, but that's not been the case," Hassell told The Star. "Obviously losing to Rochdale dented our confidence even more, but since then we've improved a lot.
"A 4-0 scoreline flattered QPR in that match and then we played well against Rochdale but didn't make any of our dominance count."
After six games last season the Tykes had managed to earn themselves just one point, but after four games this year they have banked seven and are in 10th place in the table.
Although Hassell is pleased that the Tykes are challenging in the top half, the experienced defender has warned against any complacency.
"It's great we've got more points than last season but we've not achieved anything yet," he added.
"We've got three games in just over a week now and they're all tough matches. If we win them we'll be right up there, but if we lose we could easily slip down the table.
"I reckon we'd take six points from those three games now, maybe seven, but we'll definitely trying to win all of them."
The Tykes host newly-promoted Norwich on Saturday following the two-week international break.
