FA poised to investigate Ryan vote
BARNSLEY FC director Barry Taylor could have his re-election to the FA Council investigated.
Taylor pipped Doncaster chairman John Ryan with a 9-8 vote in his favour to win the sought-after position of Yorkshire and Derbyshire regional representative.
But after defeat Ryan claimed Taylor broke FA rules, alleging his rival sent out literature promoting his campaign along with photocopies of the official ballot paper.
That would contravene FA rules on voting procedure and there could now be a voting re-run.
Taylor recently defended his nomination and said: "It's utter nonsense. The only thing I sent out was e-mails to all clubs asking them to vote for me."
FA chairman Lord Triesman appointed independent lawyer Stephen Cavalier to investigate. Cavalier's report concludes that Taylor has not acted improperley.
However, Ryan, who is in Spain on holiday, has been angered by the process and suggestions that one club may have sent in two voting papers picking both candidates.
Taylor has occupied his post for 19 years and is expected to become a life vice-president of the FA if the result of the original election is upheld or he wins any re-run.
The FA Council rules on all the major policies of the FA, the governing body of English football.
Sheffield United remain adamant that only colossal bids will be considered for the most influential members of Kevin Blackwell's squad as they attempt to plot a course back to the Premier League.
Kyle Naughton and Matthew Kilgallon - half of a back four which drove the club to within 90 minutes of promotion last season - boast plenty of admirers after delivering a series of commanding displays en route to the Championship play-off final at Wembley.
Although United would prefer to keep both at Bramall Lane, they are acutely aware that football's natural order means they could attract offers which are impossible to turn down.
