MARLON Harewood would love nothing more than to end his goal drought this afternoon against a club he holds in the highest of regards.
The experienced striker is again expected to spearhead Barnsley’s attack in the absence of leading goal-scorer Craig Davies when they take on much fancied Nottingham Forest, one of his former employers, at Oakwell.
Since joining the Reds on a permanent basis in the summer, Harewood, who had a productive loan spell at the club in 2011, has featured 12 times and has yet to find the back of the net.
“It has been a while since I scored but in training I have been scoring left, right and centre,” he insisted. “I just have to try and bring that into the games and hopefully get that lucky break.
“Once I get that first goal, they will all start flowing.”
Harewood moved to Nottingham at the tender age of 13. He joined Forest and turned professional at the City Ground in the mid-90s. In 204 appearances, the London-born forward struck 55 goals and formed a lethal partnership with David Johnson.
However, more than 18 months have now passed since the likeable 33-year-old last got on the score-sheet and he is keen to rectify that statistic, starting against Forest.
Harewood has promised not to celebrate if he breaks his duck versus 11th-placed Forest, saying: “I have absolute respect for the teams I’ve been with. They’ve looked after me very well in my career.
“Forest hold a good place in my heart. I was brought up there and I had some really good times there.
“I’ve got them in my heart and I want to do well against them. I’d say every team you’ve played for you want to do well against.”
