Davey boost as teenage stars sign up

BARNSLEY have been boosted by the signatures of two of their young stars.

Prospects Jamil Adam and Jordan Hibbert have both signed professional deals at the club as they look to break into the first team next season.

Striker Adam has agreed his first professional contract at Oakwell, a deal which will keep the 18-year-old at the club until 2010.

And Hibbert, also 18, has also put pen to paper on his first pro deal until next summer, the midfielder rewarded for some impressive performances for the club's reserve team last season.

"We are delighted that Jamil and Jordan have both signed professional contracts, they're both very promising footballers," revealed Reds boss Simon Davey. "We've got a good crop of young players coming through at the club, it's up to them to try and break into the team next season."

Bolton-born Adam was recruited from Manchester City voted their 2008 Academy Player of the Year - and has represented Nigeria Under-20s.

A product of the Reds Academy, Adam burst on to the first team scene at the end of the 2007-08 season when he made his senior debut as a 17-year-old against Cardiff City.

"Jamil is an exciting young player who we believe can have a very bright future at the club," added Davey. "We're all delighted that he has committed himself to us and we are looking forward to working with him."

Hibbert joined Barnsley from Chelsea having impressed for the Premiership club's youth team.

"Jordan is a player with a lot of potential," praised Davey. "It's been good to get both these players to sign contracts, it's exciting times because it's the start of their professional careers for the club."

Jamaican winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce has been selected to represent his country at the forthcoming Gold Cup. The competition runs from July 3-26 in the Cayman Islands, with Jamaica due to play Canada on Friday 3rd July in their opening match of the tournament.
