Davey signs 'one for the future' Sodje

ONOME Sodje - nephew of Sheffield Wednesday striker Akpo - has joined Barnsley from York.

The pacey 20-year-old has joined the Championship side on a one-year contract and is regarded as a future investment by boss Simon Davey.

"As part of the restructuring of the playing side we'll have a development squad for players like Reuben (Noble-Lazarus), Jamil (Adam) and Jordan (Hibbert) and Onome will be part of that," Davey said.

"Onome is one for the future and a player we're looking forward to working with having here at Oakwell.

"He's lightening quick with an eye for goal, a lot of potential and someone we feel can improve and develop here at Oakwell."

The move carries no fee, although York will ask the authorities to examine the transaction with a view to compensation.

Meanwhile Barnsley must pay 500,000 if they want to sign Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam.

Davey confirmed earlier this week that he has submitted an offer for the highly-rated Adam only for it to be rejected by the Glasgow club.

Barnsley, he intimated, are unlikely to return with an improved bid but they will continue to monitor the situation closely before pursuing targets elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Davey expects former United defender Rob Kozluk to pen a new contract shortly.
