Butterfield anger at boos from section of fans
Tykes: Barnsley latest news.
BARNSLEY captain Jacob Butterfield can’t believe he was booed by a section of the club’s supporters after winning the man-of-the-match award in Boxing Day’s home clash with Blackpool.
Not long after Monday’s 2-1 defeat at Oakwell the England Under-21 international used his Twitter account to tweet: “Wonder if the boos I got when I got MOM is due to me not signing the new contract yet or some people knowing nothing about football. Thanks to 99% of BFC fans however! We appreciate your support.”
Butterfield has yet to sign a new contract at the club and is rumoured to have attracted the interest of a string of Premier League clubs including Everton, Wolves and Stoke.
But Butterfield has stressed whether he signs a new contract or decides to leave when the January transfer window opens, he will continue giving his all for the Reds’ Championship cause.
Butterfield told The Star: “Football fans support their team and, unfortunately, some of them can’t see past that.
“But in the football world it doesn’t work like that. I don’t know what I’m going to do yet, so I don’t deserve the stick that I’ve been given.
“I just love playing football and I’ll always try my best when I pull on the Barnsley shirt.
“I owe it to the club, the players and the fans. I’ll never let the Barnsley fans down for as long as I’m here, I’ll always try my best.”
As yet no clubs have made an official approach to sign Butterfield, but if he did leave next month the Reds’ would definitely receive a fee.
Some fans have moaned that Butterfield would leave for free, but because he is aged under 24 the Reds are entitled to compensation.
“There’s been so much speculation it’s crazy really,” admitted Butterfield.
“It can be a distraction but it’s just important I focus on my football and then make a decision in January.
“My future is uncertain but this is the biggest decision of my career so I’m not going to be rushed.
“I’m still in talks with the club about a new deal, so we’ll have to see what happens.”

Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 05:51 PMHas it not occured to Jacob that the boos may have been aimed at the decission of who the man of the match was awarded to and not necessarily the player himself? Everyone has opinions whether right or wrong and they can be aired in different ways. I didn't boo personally but I also did not agree with the choice of M.O.M. Let your football do the talking Jacob - if your good enough a bigger club will come knocking but if not then keep up the good work for the reds but don't alienate the fans by getting involced in something like this that can cause a slanging match and rifts between players and fans.
