Barnsley: Next Reds boss faces ‘daunting’ task

WHOEVER becomes Barnsley’s next manager faces an uphill task trying to halt the club’s slide into League One, director Don Rowing has conceded.

With Sean O’Driscoll and Terry Butcher turning down the opportunity to succeed Keith Hill, David Flitcroft, Hill’s former assistant, remains in caretaker charge as the Reds prepare to entertain Leeds United this afternoon.

“It is a very daunting task facing anyone,” he told The Star. “We are bottom of the league and four points adrift of safety.”

But he added: “We have to stay positive and believe we can get out of trouble.”

Jacob Mellis is in line to start, having recovered from a severe dead leg but Danny Rose may have to settle for a place on the bench despite his strike against Burnley.
