FORMER Barnsley skipper Jacob Butterfield has vowed not to celebrate if he scores against his former club.
Ex Reds midfield maestro Butterfield could make his debut for loan club Bolton Wanderers tomorrow as they host the misfiring Reds at the Reebok Stadium.
And the England Under-21 international, who joined Premier League Norwich City in the summer, is relishing locking horns against his former teammates this weekend.
“They’ll be no celebration if I do score out of respect for the Barnsley fans,” revealed Butterfield, speaking exclusively to The Star. “You can never say that you won’t go back to a former club, but for me I want to get some games at Bolton and then go back to Norwich City and try and force my way into the first team.
“But I’m really looking forward to seeing the (Barnsley) lads this weekend, I’ve still got a lot of friends at the club.
“I still speak to the gaffer (Keith Hill) and Flicker (David Flitcroft), and I speak to Bobby Hassell and Luke Steele. I had some great years at Barnsley and was sad to leave. I still follow them and want to do well, but from a personal point of view I want to score on Saturday and be successful at Bolton.” Butterfield joined the Canaries with an injury and has yet to make his league debut for the club, so he is hoping his one-month loan switch the Trotters will get his blossoming career back on track.
“I was at a bit of a disadvantage when I joined Norwich because I was injured, but this is a good opportunity for me to get some games at Bolton,” added Butterfield.
“I didn’t realise Barnsley could be the match I make my debut in. It’s a bit ironic, but I had a little smile when I realised we were playing them this weekend.”
The Reds will be without the injured Craig Davies, Paul Digby and David Perkins this weekend, while defender Rob Edwards has returned from his loan at Fleetwood Town with a hamstring injury.
The Reds will also be without the injured Bobby Hassell (hamstring) and Mido (back) this weekend after they picked up injuries in training this week. Nottingham Forest loan striker Marcus Tudgay - formerly of Sheffield Wednesday - is expected to make his debut for the Reds.
