BARNSLEY take on Watford this afternoon looking to end a run of eight Championship matches without a win.
And Reds’ boss Keith Hill says he’s not going to beat himself up if his side don’t get the results he craves.
Hill remains fully focused on trying to help the Reds claw their way up the table.
He said: “I don’t worry about bad runs, but there would have been a time where I worried about it.
“I just look at other managers now and see how they fight their way out of adversity.
“You only have to look at someone like Roberto Martinez, he’s faced runs like this and look at what he’s achieved. You do need time, but unfortunately in our business you don’t always get it.
“But I’m optimistic about the future. I’ve got a great relationship with (club owner) Patrick Cryne. He’s behind me and Flicker (assistant boss David Flitcroft) because he believes in what we’re doing.
“I don’t think anyone can argue that the performances against Cardiff and Burnley have been good, it was just a shame we didn’t get the right result against Cardiff. But we’ll keep working to our end goal and that’s retaining our Championship status and developing this club.”
The Hornets present another tough challenge this weekend with Italian Gianfranco Zola having got the club firing after the sacking of former boss Sean Dyche, a good friend of Hill’s.
“Watford have had an excellent season” added Hill. “There’s been a massive change around there, but their aim is to get in the Premier League. For me Zola was one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League. He had an introduction to management at West Ham and things didn’t go to plan, but he’s had time to reflect on things and come back better for it.
“It’s going to be a tough game for us, but we’re looking forward to the challenge as we do every game.”
The Reds will be without the injured David Perkins and Paul Digby. Loan recruits Marcus Tugday, Akos Buzsaky and Jonathan Greening are all set to start against the Hornets, while fellow loanee Emile Sinclair could be handed a starting berth as well.
