FORMER Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer has applied to become the new Barnsley manager.
The Star can exclusively reveal that former Owls ace Palmer has put his hat into the ring to be Keith Hill’s successor at Oakwell.
The 47-year-old managed Stockport between 2001 and 2003 and then Mansfield Town in 2004-2005, but has not been in football management since then.
Palmer, a former England international, currently works as a pundit for BBC Final Score and a number of other television companies.
And The Star has also discovered former Hull City boss Nicky Barnby and Barnsley-born Mick Wadsworth, who has managed a string of clubs including Huddersfield, Hartlepool United and Chester City, have also applied for the job.
