DAVID Flitcroft and Neil Redfearn are among the names in the frame to become Barnsley’s new manager after Terry Butcher’s decision to turn down the role yesterday.
Hill’s former assistant Flitcroft is currently in charge of first-team affairs and The Star understands he will be in the dugout for their clash with Leeds United at Oakwell on Saturday.
Ex-Reds captain Redfearn is currently the academy coach at Leeds.
Like Sean O`Driscoll, Butcher has decided against a possible move to the Championship strugglers and opted to remain as manager of Inverness Caley Thistle, who he joined in January 2009.
Former England centre-half Butcher said: “I was pleased that Caley Thistle gave me the opportunity to talk to Barnsley, who were excellent to deal with, but I have decided that my future lies at Inverness.
“We have been going extremely well to be second in the SPL, still in the Scottish Cup and with a League Cup semi-final to look forward to later this month.
“I have also brought people to this club and, on reflection, feel that I should remain with them to try and continue the good work.”
Inverness chairman Kenny Cameron was relieved Butcher rebuffed the Reds advances.
