Bank on resurgent Owls to triumph at Hillsborough

SHEFFIELD Wednesday ended their dismal sequence of nine Championship matches without a victory in emphatic fashion last weekend as they hammered hapless Ipswich 3-0 at Portman Road. Now the Owls have the chance to move out of the bottom three as they welcome Peterborough to Hillsborough.

Dave Jones’ troops are odds-on at 5/6 with Stan James to make it back-to-back wins by getting the better of Posh, who lie one place above the relegation zone and are priced at 7/2 by BetVictor to pick up a fifth triumph in seven attempts.

Meanwhile, as both sides have shown signs of revival recently, bet365’s 11/4 for it to finish all square could be the subject of market support, alongside a 1-1 scoreline at 7/1 via William Hill and Skybet’s 5/1 for scores to be level at the end of each half.

After last week’s result however, Wednesday fans are likely to be in higher spirits and they can opt for BetVictor’s 14/5 marked against an Owls triumph by a one-goal margin or bet365’s 15/2 for Jones’ troops to finish on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline.

Staying in the Championship, Barnsley were beaten 4-1 by Nottingham Forest at Oakwell last weekend and BetVictor subsequently consider the Reds to be 21/5 outsiders to snare a maximum haul as they travel to Hull.

For teams outside of the top two divisions, it’s the start of the road to Wembley and Sheffield United are one of the teams hoping to avoid an upset in the FA Cup first round proper.

The Blades visit League Two opposition in the shape of Bristol Rovers and Stan James quote odds of 3/1 for the Pirates to eliminate Danny Wilson’s men. However, United’s current form suggests that they shouldn’t be too vulnerable and they’re worthy favourites at 10/11 courtesy of Paddy Power to swerve the Memorial Stadium banana skin.

Doncaster entertain non-league Bradford Park Avenue and should justify William Hill’s quote of 7/20 for a Rovers success while both Chesterfield and Rotherham face opposition from League One. The Spireites are 13/10 (Stan James) to overcome struggling Hartlepool and BetVictor rate Rotherham at 7/4 as they host Stevenage.
