Sheffield Wednesday will travel to South Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley for a pre-season friendly on Saturday, August 2, kick-off 1pm.
It is the second warm-up match the Owls have arranged. Stuart Gray’s men will also entertain Newcastle United at Hillsborough on Wednesday, July 30. Other matches lined up include York City, managed by Wednesday legend Nigel Worthington, and Bury.
Wednesday drew 1-1 in their meeting with Barnsley at Oakwell in the Championship last season. Matty Fryatt’s volley cancelled out Marcus Pedersen’s superb first half opener. The Owls triumphed 1-0 in the corresponding fixture thanks to a last minute goal by Chris Maguire. Three players were sent off, including Jermaine Johnson.
Barnsley slipped out of the second-tier of English football following their defeat at Middlesbrough in the club’s penultimate match.
