NEW right-back Scott Wiseman has assured Barnsley fans that their team will be entertainers next season.
He should know, as he has had plenty of experience of playing under new boss Keith Hill during three years at Rochdale together – a period in which the Spotland outfit secured a swashbuckling promotion and then made a mid-season push for the League One play-offs last season.
The 25-year-old said: “The fans ought to be excited by the fact that we are going to be playing some good football under Keith Hill.
“His philosophy is to play football and attack. We’re not going to just sit in and try and counter-attack people, that’s not the thinking.
“We’re all here now to entertain and to win matches.”
There is genuine excitement and anticipation circling Oakwell at present thanks to the new blood drafted in by Hill and already Wiseman has seen plenty on the training field to feel confident that good times lie ahead in the Championship.
It is undoubtedly going to be a big step up for Hill and his loyal right-hand man Dave Flitcroft, but Wiseman knows the pair very well and feels he knows what is going to make them and Barnsley tick.
Wiseman added: “I’ve been part of a Keith Hill regime for three years now so I know what him and Dave Flitcroft are all about.
“So far, the other new lads are taking everything on board, too. We’re all responding very well, from what I’ve seen.
“It’s definitely the pair of them. With Keith Hill and Dave, one simply doesn’t go without the other.
“They reflect each other so well. It’s brilliant the way they work together so well.
“They’ve just instilled a family environment, really. We’re all in this together, that’s the attitude.
“And that’s not just the lads around the team – I’m talking about the people behind the scenes, the backroom staff, everybody.”
n Barnsley’s annual open day takes place on Sunday, when supporters will be welcome to take a good look around Oakwell between 11am and 3pm.
During what is sure to be another fun-packed family outing, there will be a range of activities for supporters young and old, as well as the much-anticipated release of the new Nike away strip, which is set to be a hit with fans.
The “Hillcroft” era begins at Oakwell this season, and the new management duo will be interviewed live for the first time in front of all supporters.
Reds players will also be on hand to sign autographs and shirts during a special signing session at the front of the East Stand at around 11.30am.
