BARNSLEY have refused an offer of £700,000 from Derby County for club captain Jason Shackell.
And, speaking exclusively to The Star, Reds’ director Don Rowing has stressed the Oakwell club won’t be considering any further offers for Shackell until they have appointed a new manager.
“We have had an approach from Derby County to sign Jason Shackell, but at this moment in time we’ve refused it because we haven’t got a manager,” said Rowing.
“We’re working very hard at the moment to appoint a new manager, so that’s our main focus at this time.”
Hull City were also rumoured to be interested in signing centre-back Shackell, but Rowing revealed the club had not received any approach from the Tigers.
“We’ve not had an approach from Hull for Jason, that’s just speculation,” added Rowing.
The club are still in talks with Rochdale boss Keith Hill to become their new manager.
