BARNSLEY face Hibernian today in their first pre-season fixture ahead of the new Championship season.
And for new signing Rob Edwards it’s a chance for the Reds to hit the ground running, especially after their intensive Spanish training camp.
“I’m really looking forward to it.
“I think after playing a game with the lads for the first time that you start to feel like a proper member of the team,” revealed Edwards.
“After you’d had a proper game you can talk about it with the other players and start to feel part of the club.
“It’s going to be a tough game because they have had a few pre-season friendlies already, so maybe they’ll have that little bit of sharpness.
“But I think the two weeks’ work we’ve done so far has put us in good stead.”
The Reds flew back to Manchester on Wednesday after a week of solid work in the sun-drenched resort of Benavista near Marbella.
And for the club’s seven new players, which includes centre-back Edwards, the trip proved to be a great way to bond with his new teammates.
“I’ve enjoyed my first couple of weeks, meeting the boys and settling in,” added Edwards.
“Training has been really hard, but I’ve enjoyed it. You expect pre-season to be tough, but me and all the new lads have settled in.
“We had to get our rest in and get a couple of hours of sleep in when we could get it because the training was difficult.”
Of Hill’s seven new signings, four players have never played in the Championship.
But Edwards is confident the likes of Craig Davies, Matt Done, Scott Wiseman and David Perkins have the calibre to shine at a higher level.
Edwards, has Premier League experience with Aston Villa and Blackpool.
