There was plenty of optimism at Oakwell after last season’s ‘Great Escape’ and rightly so because manager David Flitcroft masterminded the seemingly impossible by keeping Barnsley in the Championship.
The club of course only avoided relegation on the last day of the season – and that was touch and go – but regardless that was an incredible achievement given the predicament the South Yorkshire outfit found themselves in at the turn of the year.
But as Flitcroft has said many time himself “last season has gone” – it’s time to move on and look for improvements.
And he of all people will know that the Reds have got to find their feet quickly this season or risk getting hauled back into a desperate relegation scrap for the second year running.
