BARNSLEY director Don Rowing has told The Star the club might have to offer a new deal to club skipper Jacob Butterfield to make sure he stays at the club.

Butterfield is out for the rest of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury and is due to have an operation tomorrow at a private clinic in Sheffield.

The 21-year-old is rumoured to have attracted the interest of Everton, Newcastle and Stoke - all of whom have sent representatives to watch Barnsley at Oakwell this season prior to his injury.

“Jacob’s duty-bound to stay with us until the summer, but over the course of the next few months I’m sure we’ll sit down again and see if we can get him to stay at the club,” said Rowing.
