Barnsley have sacked assistant manager Micky Mellon and goalkeeping coach Ian Willcock ahead of Saturday’s home game with Bournemouth.

The timing of the move is likely to come as a shock to some, especially with 11 league games remaining for the Reds in the Championship.

Reds boss Danny Wilson spoke glowingly of Mellon when he was appointed as the club’s new manager, but ultimately he now has no use for the Scot or Willcock.

Barnsley’s development coach Paul Heckingbottom is understood to be lined up to help Wilson for the remainder of the season.
