Jim O’Brien has felt the frustration and disappointment of Barnsley supporters this season.
Defeat away to Middlesbrough on Saturday confirms relegation from the Championship after a seven-year stay, while a victory could have seen the battle to avoid the drop go right to the wire for a second successive season.
But win or lose O’Brien knows just how rough a ride it has been for the Oakwell outfit in the English second tier this season, especially for the club’s loyal fans.
“I can only apologise to the fans as a member of this squad for the position we’re in,” admitted O’Brien, speaking exclusively to the Green’Un.
“We feel the pain of the supporters. It’s not nice when you’re down at the bottom of the table for most of the season.”
