NEW loan signing Paul McShane is expected to make his debut for Barnsley today as they take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
McShane penned a two-month loan deal earlier this week as Reds boss Mark Robins swooped to sign cover for the injured Stephen Foster.
Fellow centre-back Foster is expected to be sidelined for around six weeks having torn a thigh muscle, so McShane has been brought in to partner club skipper Jason Shackell at the back.
“Fozzie’s been a real stalwart of the side this season, so he’s going to be missed,” Robins told The Star. “He’s played the majority of games for us, but his injury is offset by us managing to get Paul McShane in to the building. He’s a very talented player with a great pedigree.
“Paul also knows [goalkeeper] Luke Steele, so hopefully they’re going to have a good understanding at the back for us.”
The Reds will definitely be without Argentinean midfielder Hugo Colace after he tore an abductor muscle in training this week.
But Robins does have plenty of options in midfielder with Chelsea loanee Jacob Mellis, Stoke loan midfielder Diego Arismendi, Jacob Butterfield and Nathan Doyle all pushing for first-team starts.
However, Robins is also sweating on the fitness of full-back Bobby Hassell who has not trained this week following his injury in the stalemate with Ipswich Town.
Manchester City loanee Kieran Trippier could start in place of Hassell at right-back, with Mellis and Doyle likely to partner each other in the centre of midfield.
