Hat-trick for Sinclair as Swans fly up

FORMER Owls and Barnsley defender Garry Monk lifted The Championship Play-off Trophy at Wembley as Swansea climaxed the domestic season by returning to top flight football after an absence of 18 years.

Scott Sinclair struck a hat-trick, including two penalties, in their 4-2 win over Reading, the club that sacked Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers last season after just six months in charge.

Central defender Monk had a three month loan spell at Hillsborough in 2002 and a season at Barnsley before joining Swansea in 2004.

It meant a successful end to the season for Swansea midfielder Leon Britton who played the first half of the season at Sheffield United before joining the Welsh club in January. Three down at half-time, Reading did pull back to 3-2.
