BARNSLEY assistant boss Dave Flitcroft could not be happier with the way his new team are progressing in pre-season.
The Reds tomorrow face their first Oakwell pre-season friendly, against Grimsby Town.
“The Grimsby game will just be about progression once again for us,” Flitcroft told The Star.
“Keith [Hill] and I have been delighted with what we’ve seen so far from the players, both in training and in the two games we’ve already played [a 1-0 behind-closed-doors win at Hibernian last weekend and Tuesday’s 3-0 win at Hartlepool].
“The work ethic is clearly there for us to see and there’s plenty of quality.
“With each passing day we’re seeing a little bit more improvement, with the passing, the movement, and generally with the way all the lads are conducting themselves.
“The players have put in a lot of hard miles since Keith and I came in, and so far I’d say they’ve passed all the tests with flying colours.
“The performances in the two matches have been excellent, the commitment has been there from everyone and we have produced two really professional performances.
“We’ve just got to go out there on Saturday in front of our own fans and show more improvement.
“It’s a work in progress, but everything appears to be coming together nicely so far.”
Flitcroft is also delighted that all the squad remain fit: “That’s been a real positive for us,
“I’m delighted that we’ve come through our two games thus far unscathed.
“That’s largely down to hard work again and the physical approach we’ve taken to training and match preparation.”
Entry tomorrow costs £12 for adults and £6 for concessions.
