BARNSLEY striker Garry O’Connor has called for the Reds to recapture the form which saw them thump Ipswich Town 3-1 earlier in the season.
The Reds hosts the Tractor Boys at Oakwell this afternoon looking to complete an Championship league double over their opponents.
And O’Connor and the hosts are understandably keen to bounce back from last Saturday’s 4-1 away loss to Leicester City.
“We’ve had our ups and downs in the last month,” admitted O’Connor. “We could have been in the play-off positions, but it’s a tough, tough league to play in.
“Ipswich have a lot of good players, but we need to focus on ourselves and I’m confident we can win this game. If we play to our capabilites then we will win the game
“People know when they come here they are going to get a tough game. Down there we beat them 3-1 and that was probably our best away performance. We need to match that.”
O’Connor has signed for the Reds until the end of the season and Oakwell boss Mark Robins is keen to keep him at the club next season. The former Scottish international has scored four goals this term, but just once in his last 11 games and he’s desperate to keep finding the back of the net.
“I feel I’m getting sharper and fitter,” added O’Connor. “Having not played a lot of games prior to coming here ,it takes time to get back up to speed, but I feel I am nearly there.
“We need to kick on now and string a few wins together and go on an unbeaten run. I feel we are good enough to be higher up in the league.
“We need to keep focusing on what Mark Robins tells us and we will do well. Mark has brought in some really good players and you can see that in training.
“They have been an improvement to our squad so hats off to the gaffer.”
